Sweater design involves math. A lot of math. Which is exactly what spreadsheets excel at. (See what I did there?)  We'll start by reviewing some of the math we use to draft a sweater pattern for knitting or crocheting.

Then we'll move those formulas to an Excel or Google Sheet spreadsheet that will do the calculations.

You'll create your own high-powered "calculator" that will enable you to grade for multiple sizes at once, double-check your calculations, convert measurements to metrics, automatically round numbers, and more. Along the way, there will be plenty of discussion about the mechanics of sweaters and sweater shaping.

This class is for designers, tech editors, and anybody who wants to design a sweater for one or more sizes.

This live class series is currently ongoing and not open for registration. When the class series is over, the entire class recording will be available for streaming, along with live office hours where I'll answer your questions.

If you would like to be notified when the class recording is available, please "purchase" the class for $0. You will be added to a list and notified when the course becomes available.

Thanks for your interest! I can't wait to meet you!

Excellent focus on getting the most out of your software tools

If you're a designer, even just for yourself, don't hesitate to sign up for Edie's spreadsheets class. Her systematic approach and clear explanations will get you up to speed quickly, and her tips for programs like Excel are invaluable. Note that it's not a class about grading sizes. Instead, Edie focuses on efficiently and accurately creating pattern instructions for both knitting and crochet. I felt that I knew the basics of designing and sizing, but I really learned a lot!
